There Are Only a Few Big Topics
When it comes down to it, the best selling nonfiction books always cover a few general topics. Before there were e-books, there were $5 reports in the back of magazines and in newspaper classifieds. Look through a few of these old magazines and you will find reports on the same subjects that e-books are written on today. • Money – More books are probably written on this subject than on anything else. Whether your readers see money as success, freedom, respect or anything else, a well written book on how to make or save money will always sell. • Time – Probably the second greatest commodity that people have. And people will trade their money for it. If you can show someone how create more time, they will buy your book. • Forbidden Secrets – UFO’s, the occult, magick, witchcraft, hacking, spy tools, etc. People will always want to know what they are no supposed to. • Sex – How to attract the opposite sex, dating tips. This subject has always sold since time began. • Health – Everyone wants to live longer and have a better quality of life. From diet tips to meditation techniques, this is a subject that has always been in the top ten. • How to – Break down a complex process into a few easy steps and you could have a best seller. People are afraid of everything from their car to their computer. If you are the hands-on type of person, you can explain to them how easy it is to install a hard drive or change their oil. • Travel – People want to see new places and experience new things, so books on “Seeing Europe for Pennies a Day” and discount airline tickets are popular topics. • Popularity – You might just say that adult life is “high school” the sequel. • Hobbies and Crafts – Activities that your customers will use to escape from their normal, everyday lives. Everyone is creative in one way or another and like to express their creativity. • Recipes – An easy one. You can’t copyright recipes. I sold an e-book I received for free on EBay for months. They were low-carb recipes before everything became low-carb. • Self-help – Get organized, overcome shyness, quit smoking and the list goes on. Of course, you have to be a reader in order to be a writer and if you are, you can double or triple the size of this list. |
